Sailmount Channel Assembly of Clades
The Procession of Insects

Sailmount Channel is a small location in Western Jutland, Denmark. It consists of inland dunes, heath, meadows and a low coniferous pine plantation planted in 1897 to prevent sand drift. In 1960 my grandparents bought the location, approximately 20 acres of land. Since then it has been left untouched, except for the construction of a small holiday cottage. The property is currently owned by two of my cousins. One of them, Thomas Holm, has for the past 15 years documented wildlife - in photos and text - in an approximate radius of 200 meters around the cottage. The documentation is publicly available and forms the basis for this poem. The name Sailmount (Sejlbjerg) is historically accurate but does not appear on any present-day map.
(1) For reference, see Den holmske metode and appendices GØDEL KANAL KLADEFORSAMLING – artsfortegnelse, the latter being the full list of insect species documented from Sailmount. The name "Gødel" is a technical location name, which I use in the Danish versions. It does not transcribe well into English.
